Good idea, but I think it might be a bit hard to play, while Pan's idea opens up a route for a big quest.
Wow the king sure has been a dick recently -> Do you think he's being controlled? -> Well we better find out what's controlling him -> Let's go fix it.
I think it'd work VERY nicely as the opening quest for this RP.

Usually the prizes for quests are gear or something, though we leave it to the players to HONESTLY fill in their own inventories.
I don't think the first quest would be assassinating the king. When you think about it, a job like that is a little too advances for a little level 1.
